DIY : BROWN BEAR BABY SHOWER

This past week, B and I (along with our fabulous co-workers) threw a baby shower for our sweet mama-to-be in the office! When we first started planning, we had to come up with a theme that could work for boy or girl (because Mama isn't finding out the sex.. how is she doing that?!). With the last name Brown, there was no debate. Theme: Brown Bear, Brown Bear. And did it turn out cute?!

THE THEME

There were a lot of creative minds that came together for this party, so we decided to seize the opportunity and DIO (Do-It-Ourselves). We used the Brown Bear from Eric Carle and Bill Martin Jr.'s classic book as the central figure of the invitation, menu, and food place cards (all created using InDesign). Teal and shades of Brown were the themed colors (which we used as polka dots on the invitation as well as the homemade garland -- just cut out card stock circles and sew! It's that easy!). Keeping with the polka dots, circular bear claws were cut and placed around the room to help unify the space.

THE MENU

The party was at 2 p.m. so we knew we wanted to have cute little bites, but what kind?  For this we turned to the mama-to-be 's cravings (fruit and Tex-Mex), which was absolutely perfect! We catered the Tex-Mex from Ozona's, made our own fruit salad, and baked our own Teddy Graham mini cupcakes. Incredibly cute and incredibly addicting!

THE GAME

Everyone loves a good baby shower game -- whether it is guessing the circumference of the mama's belly or seeing who can change a baby's diaper the fastest blindfolded. Since all we know about Baby Brown is it's due date, we decided to create a fun guessing game that mama bear could also keep as a baby shower keepsake. Everyone wrote a Name, Date of Birth, and Weight on a bear cut out (DIO) and then placed a bow/bowtie (DIO) on the bear before gluing it onto the poster board. It was a hit! Whether a serious guess or a silly one, it will be fun to look back and see all of the fun things everyone wrote.

If you have the opportunity to throw a baby shower for a friend, be creative! All of the personal touches make it that much more special (and that much more fun to plan). We had a blast celebrating mama bear and baby! Now just looking forward to if baby bear is a boy or girl!
