BEST SUNFLOWER FIELD IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Some days you just crave a little adventure, at least Warren and I do! Seeing the Nor Cal sunflower fields has been on my “SF Bucket List” for awhile now and we decided this past weekend that we were finally going to check it off! We woke up early Saturday morning and were on the road by 6am to get to the fields early as we wanted to beat the crowds.

We drove out to the Field of Sunflowers in Dixon, California, which is located approximately an hour and fifteen minutes outside of SF with no traffic. Side note: when you type in the address into your navigation system, you end up at a crossroad with no sunflowers in site. Keep driving straight down Currey Road and you’ll hit the sunflower fields. These lands are also not public, so be respectful of the flowers and ask permission from the farmers if you see one. I contacted them via the link on their website to give a heads up that we were visiting and wanted to take photos and gave my contact information if they had any concerns as precaution.

We were super lucky and didn’t have any other people around as we explored. It was definitely a site to see rows and rows of sunflowers that go on for what seems like miles. Truly fascinating to me! I do feel like we visited a little too late in the season as some of the flowers were already starting to wilt but there were still definitely some good patches of sunflowers! I also thought the sunflowers would be a lot taller — closer to my height — but they only came up to a little above my waist. Not going to lie, was a little bummed out about that, but overall, was very glad we visited the infamous California sunflower fields! If you want to plan a trip yourself, I recommend going out there within the first two weeks of August if you want to visit soon, otherwise, come back early-mid July next year!
