DAY TRIP TO BIG SUR

This past Saturday W and I decided to make a day trip down to Big Sur as an early celebration for our anniversary (that was yesterday!) We had visited the area earlier last year with my parents and it was love at first sight. I have never seen anything so beautiful! I could drive along highway 1 for hours and be completely satisfied. W and I kept stopping to pull over on the side of the road to just take in the gorgeous views. There's truly nothing like it.

We woke up pretty early on Saturday and got on the road around 730am as we wanted to take advantage of most of the day as possible! Our first stop was at a small farmers market that we just happened across. They had a big sign out front that said 5 avocados for $1 which had me immediately hooked! I'm a  HUGE avo lover and they cost about $3 per avocado at our local grocery store!! So we stocked up on those as well as some tasty fruits!

We got back on the road and pulled over at the Bixby Bridge (pictured above). The bridge is truly a site to see! There's something so magnificent about it as it gently curves and connects you between two sides of a mountain. It's definitely a photo opp moment so I recommend you stop here the next time you're in the area!

We then made our way to Nepenthe for an early lunch (after pulling over numerous times to take in the gorgeous views of the vast ocean and coastline). My parents took us to Nepenthe on our previous trip and we knew we had to come back! The food is outrageously good while you dine al fresco looking out onto the ocean. I recommend getting there right when they open (11:30 am) so you can snag a spot on their back patio. They also have a super cute shop downstairs full of amazing textiles and unique finds.

After lunch we headed about 10 minutes south of Nepenthe to see McWay Falls. There is a bit of a hike (not terrible, but definitely a little hike) so I don't recommend wearing booties as I did - haha oops! After taking in the sights at the falls we started to head back North to check out our favorite town, Carmel-by-the-Sea

We grabbed a parking spot downtown and walked around the quaint town popping into fun shops (I purchased a rag and bone hat from my favorite boutique there, Paloosh). It was then time to refuel with a glass of rosé and oysters and a beer for Warren. We headed to W's favorite oyster place, A.W. shucks to satisfy our craving! We explored a little more and then decided it was time to head back to the city before it got too late.

It was a quick but utterly fun day trip! It's days like this where I'm reminded of how thankful I am to live in such a magical place that is surrounded by such beauty.
