RESTAURANT REVIEW : MR. MESERO

The first restaurant W and I tried when we moved to Dallas was Mr. Mesero. You move to Texas and you eat Tex-Mex, that's expected. What was not expected was the obsession that would come out of our first dining experience.

Mr. Mesero was voted Best Tex-Mex in Dallas by D Magazine for a reason. The food, the ambiance, the service: consistently fabulous. And it is home to B and I's favorite margarita: the El Santo. The El Santo is the perfect frozen margarita, swirled with colorful sangria, that is guaranteed to raise your happiness level in the matter of seconds. Hands down the best margarita in Dallas. And trust us, we are Margarita connoisseurs.

When you dine at Mr. Mesero, the Queso Mesero is a must. Spinach, artichoke, cheese, and roasted poblano are cooked to perfection and brought out within minutes of ordering. Your server delicately dollops a scoop onto a large corn disc chip and the feasting begins. I will give you a warning, this queso will be the best you have ever had and you will eat entirely too much. YOLO.

Now the hardest decision I have made in weeks: to order the Nachos Conocidos (4 corn disk chips topped with black beans, brisket, cheese, avocado, red jalapeño, and crema) or combination Quatro (one tomatillo chicken enchalada, one brisket taco, and green rice). Both have been so consistently amazing that I have yet to venture to anything else on the menu. Surprisingly, I was super into tomatillo this particular night, so I ordered combination Tres (two tomatillo chicken enchiladas sub green rice for red rice). It did not disappoint.

What I absolutely love about Mr. Mesero (other than the incredible, yet affordable food and margaritas) is the ambiance. Fun, chic yet casual environment, where the kitchen is the size of a college dorm room. Full of energy and life. Mr. Mesero was founded by the same genius (Mico Rodriguez) who founded Mi Cocina, Taco Diner, and Misero Miguel. All restaurants have different unique atmospheres but one similar thing you can count on: a dining experience you won't forget that keeps you coming back for more.
