RESTAURANT REVIEW : HIBISCUS

Being new to Dallas and a devoted foodie, one of the first questions I ask someone when I meet them is: "What is your favorite restaurant in Dallas?" The #1 answer I get is "Hibiscus. No question." So when the opportunity came to try it out for W's birthday, I jumped.

Hibiscus did not disappoint. We walked in the door and the hostess immediately suggested putting the cake I was holding in the wine cellar to keep it cool (the DIY Golf Cake from our previous posts). She then asked us for our reservation name and swiftly directed us to our booth.

Being gluten intolerant, I immediately asked the waiter if that would be a problem. At Hibiscus? No problem at all. Not only is the menu incredibly gluten-friendly, the staff is knowledgeable and accommodating.

B and I started out with the Bramble 75 cocktail, the perfect combination of sobieski, rasberry, lemon, and prosecco. The kind of drink you cant help but smile with every sip. We then ordered two salads for our table of four that came out in individualized portions. I always love a restaurant where sharing is caring.

The real game changer was by far the Main Course. I ordered the Gulf Paella: rice with red snapper, rock shrimp, blue crab, and goat chorizo. It was everything my tastebuds were expecting and more. The rice was the perfect consistency with generous portions of the shrimp, crab, and chorizo. The snapper was perfectly cooked, with a light crust that added that extra bit of texture to send it over the top.

Whenever I have talked about Hibiscus, french fries is usually said in the same sentence. "You have to get the french fries!" We ordered the large portion complete with the perfect fontina fondue. They were by far the best french fries I have ever had. And as if there wasn't enough starch on the table, we also ordered the Raclette Potato Puree. This side took me back to when I studied abroad in Paris. Raclette is a staple. If you are as lucky as I was to visit the Salon De L'Agriculture (Paris' International Agriculture Show where you find a floor dedicated to cheese) the lingering taste of Raclette and potatoes has stayed at the forefront of my foodie memory. Toutes les mémoires.

Please don't wait as long as I did (1 year) to try out this Dallas staple. It was the best meal and most pleasurable dining experience I have had yet.
